February is the month of love. Every year in the middle of the month we celebrate Valentine's day in a variety of ways, expressing our love with flowers, candy and cards. Usually Valentine's day is reserved for 'romantic' expressions of love, but not exclusively. Love, this past Valentine's Day came to the kids at the Bentley Parke Apartments in the form of arts and crafts supplied by Love My Kids; The Tracy Otte Foundation. Several of the Board members, teachers from Marshall Elementary and other supporters spent a couple hours helping kids make and decorate Valentine's day cards for their parents, siblings and friends. It is amazing how the simple effort of bringing card stock, crayons, glitter and glue can impact the lives of these children. Many of us may take such things for granted, but these kids live in a world were resources are very limited and an opportunity to tell the special people in their lives how they feel aren't as readily available as they are for those of us who are living above the poverty line. The joy and happiness expressed by the kids was priceless and well worth the investment of or time and resources that have been generously donated by you, our supporters. Will you consider helping us love Tracy's 'kids' by volunteering or with a monetary donation? Our next event at the Bentley Parke Apartments will be on Saturday, March 28th from noon until 1 pm. We will be doing an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Come and join us. You won't be sorry. Blessings!
It's been over a year since the inspiration for Love My Kids passed into the arms of our Savior. But, her memory and influence live on, which is a testament to just how remarkable a woman Tracy was. At the beginning of February Marshall Elementary, where Tracy taught for over 10 years, celebrated what would have been Tracy's 50th birthday. In honor of this occasion the entire first week of February was a special Spirit Week dedicated to Tracy. Kids were encouraged on different days to wear pink in honor of Tracy's love for pigs, accessorize their 'outfits' with jewelry, hats and other fabulous items, and celebrate the 80's with big hair and 80's fashion. On Feb. 5th, Tracy's birthday, a brief assembly was held to honor our inspiration and to remember and reflect on just how huge an impact Tracy had on so many of 'her kids' lives. The kids also made a donation of $100 to the Foundation, money they raised on their own.Kids also made 'piggy promises' to do what they can to honor Tracy and strive to reach their God-given potential. Hopefully you will see these promises in one of the pictures posted below. This event serves as a reminder that what we do in our lives can really make a difference to others. Please consider making a difference by supporting Love My Kids with you time, prayers and a monetary donation.
